Talking website - Reading support

The Newcastle Support Directory uses BrowseAloud to make it more accessible. It reads website content out loud, highlights each word as it is spoken in a high quality, human-sounding voice. When it is running, you simply need to move the mouse over some text on a web page, click on the icon that appears and the text is read out to you. It does, however, require some degree of vision and the ability to move the mouse pointer.

The video below describes how to use BrowseAloud and how to get the best out of this feature of the website.

Access Keys

We haven't used access keys as they can often interfere with the default keyboard shortcuts of modern browsers. The content is easily tab-navigable and screen-reader friendly. We have tried to make our site as accessible as possible.
