Pathways Learning Centre

Local Offer Information

Description

Pathways Learning Centre (PLC) is commissioned by South Gloucestershire Local Authority for children and young people (CYP) who are unable to attend their mainstream school for a variety of reasons, including medical needs, mental health, exclusion, or other SEND difficulties.

Admission to PLC is via referral only, for CYP who meet the entry criteria and live within South Gloucestershire, regardless of which school they attend. Parents/carers are unable to refer directly or request a direct admission.

PLC is not a Special School, but provides specialist educational provision, which offers high level support and interventions, in a small nurturing setting, with small class sizes and a higher staff ratio than mainstream schools are able to offer.

PLC works within a trauma recovery model, focused on assessing the needs of pupils, and working to meet their individual needs through bespoke ‘pathways’. The aim of which is to re-engage all young people, to help them feel safe, secure, and supported to achieve. Achievement at PLC is measured not only on academic progress, but by improvement in attendance, social and emotional development, and successful transitions; either returning to their mainstream school or transitioning to a new school or post 16 provider.

PLC is a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and operates as a short stay school. PRUs are inspected by Ofsted, using the same inspection framework as all mainstream and special schools.
