SEND and Alternative Provision Green Paper

Do you want to have your say on the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and alternative provision system in England?

The Department for Education (DfE) published the SEND and alternative provision green paper on Tuesday 29 March 2022. It sets out a vision for a single, national SEND and alternative provision (AP) system that will introduce new standards in the quality of support given to children across education, health and care.

Green papers are consultation documents produced by the Government to allow people to give feedback on proposals which would change existing policies or laws.

The SEND and Alternative Provision Green Paper consultation runs until 22 July 2022, so don’t miss out on the chance to have your say.

You can find out more by visiting the official DfE website, which includes a range of accessible and supporting resources, such as:

  • a video guide
  • a full British Sign Language version to support those who are deaf or have a hearing impairment
  • an easy-read version to support those with learning disabilities
  • a guide to help children and young people with SEND or those in alternative provision to understand the green paper and respond to the consultation

The Council for Disabled Children have a dedicated area of their website which explains about the green paper and how you can get involved in the consultation.

The Council for Disabled Children are also supporting children and young people to share their views on the SEND Review Green Paper, and are looking for groups of children and young people with SEND to participate in a consultation on the proposed changes.
